QMP Ltd. is known for its customer service. Meet Joan Radin, who has been a member of the QMP customer service/sales team for ten years. When she’s not helping customers fulfill their needs, Joan enjoys spending time with her grandkids, singing in her church’s choir, working in her flower gardens, horseback riding, amateur photography, and crocheting.
“The best part of my job is talking and working with my customers, and getting to know them, and helping them with whatever their needs may be,” Joan says. “Some of my customers on the Eastern side of Canada are French Canadian, and it is fun talking with them and working through the language barrier. Some speak very little English, but we manage to work through it!”

QMP is busy preparing for the upcoming Railway Interchange event in Indianapolis, Indiana. The show is September 17-20 and is the largest combined railway exhibition and technical conference in North America.
QMP is co-exhibiting at Booth #4745 with Ballast Tools Inc. and Ballast Tools Equipment. In addition to QMP’s exclusive Twister air compressor and Airtec Master 35 gas-powered impact wrench, the booth will include BTI’s patented Spike Puller, various ballast regulator wear parts including the Hinge Boss, industry leading Carbide Tamping Tools, and innovative upgrades for Adzer heads, as well as BTE’s fleet of machines and equipment.
Come by booth #4745 at Railway Interchange in September!
The Ballast Tools Inc. Dual Spike Puller for Nordco units has been in use for several years on several Class 1 railroads. Many operators prefer the dual to the single puller for various reasons, including ease of capture. The BTI dual spike claw has consistently performed at a rate of 5 to 8 times the normal life of OEM spike claws. This particular spike puller is still running strong after five months of service. Ballast Tools Incorporated takes pride in producing quality wear-proofed parts for maintenance of way equipment. One part that consistently performs better than the OEM is the BTI Carbide Adzer Wheel. Recently, a BTI Carbide Adzer Wheel on a class one railroad lasted four months, or about 64,000 feet! The rail engineers stated that the OEM part lasted only about a third of that time at best. BTI manufactures adzer wheels to fit Kershaw, Nordco, and Knox Kershaw machines. Dockman displayed some of QMP’s specialties, including the Airtec gas powered Master 35 Impact Wrench and an array of BTI products, but he said most people were interested in the BTE line-up of hi-rail excavators. “It was a very successful event,” he said. The BTE 318 Hi-Railed Wheeled Excavator recently was tested by Applus+, one of the world’s leading testing, inspection, and certification companies. Structural engineers performed load tests on the 318, verifying lift capacities and supplying a certified load chart for the machine. The lift test was done on several points around the 360 cab rotation using the Tie Grapple and slings to lift large concrete blocks, with a load test cell in between the load and boom.
The machine performed as expected with a reasonable drop in capacity on hi-rail over the side vs. on rubber wheels. That drop is expected, but the machine still has a high load capacity, says Ballast Tools Account Manager Rick Hill. The BTE-318 is purpose-built for MOW needs with higher productivity, greater versatility, and increased capabilities. Offering the most complete selection of attachments designed specifically to maximize its capabilities, the 318 can handle just about every job involved in track maintenance and new construction faster and more efficiently than anything else in its class. The BTE-318 is available for lease or sale. Contact us today!
QMP Distributes BTE Culvert Cleaner System
QMP is the sole Canadian distributor for Ballast Tools Equipment railroad maintenance systems and attachments.
We now distribute BTE’s newest line of culvert cleaning technology, the Culvert Cleaner system.
It is the most innovative and productive way to clean clogged culverts, eliminating washed out track probability and train delays due to water damage from plugged drainage culverts.
This advanced system includes the BTE-312 Hi-rail excavator, the Culvert Cleaner attachment and recognition system, the BTE-420 Hi-rail backhoe, and the BTE cart with 100 ft. of auger.
The Culvert Cleaner System is compact, requiring a small gang of two machines and one supply cart, only two operators and one person on the ground. The system’s multiple camera view technology allows the operator to clearly and safely monitor progress inside the culvert. The Culvert Cleaner can tackle up to 140-foot-long round or boxed culverts from 12 inches to 8+ feet in diameter.
Whether you need hi-rail, track or rubber-tired equipment, BTE and QMP have your culverts covered.
